South Minneapolis Community Safety Center
The 3rd precinct police station will be at 2633 Minnehaha Ave. It will be inside the South Minneapolis Community Safety Center.

 

Our plans for Minnehaha 3000

Working on a new use for 3000 Minnehaha Ave.

The City plans to repurpose the former 3rd precinct police building.  This building is at the corner of Lake Street and Minnehaha Avenue.

Cleanup begins spring 2024

We'll begin to restore the building this spring.

The work includes:

  • Repairing the outside of the building. This includes doors and windows.  
  • Maintenance checks.
  • Removing the temporary barriers and fencing.

Future community use

  • The City is proposing to renovate the building to house Elections and Voter Services.
  • This will include the:
    • Early Vote Center
    • Offices for election staff
    • Warehouse and storage space for election-related equipment and supplies
  • A large, ground-level part of the building will also be set aside for a community use.
  • We will engage with the public to explore what that space can be.

We'll share next steps at a community information session in the summer.

Presented Minnehaha 3000 update

On April 8, 2024, we presented an update on Minnehaha 3000 to the Committee of the Whole.

  • Next steps for community engagement
