Fire Explorers

We provide youth an opportunity to explore a career in the fire and emergency service fields. This training is hands-on.

Come explore

The Minneapolis Fire and Emergency Services Explorer program students learn what it is like to be a Firefighter/EMT.  

It includes:

  • Leadership development
  • Career exploration
  • Training

Hands-on training

You will do exercises alongside Firefighter/EMTs.

You will participate in:

  • Firefighting and emergency response skills
  • Leadership and community service
  • A ride-along program
  • Regional fire/ems post explorer competitions

Application process

How it works

  • Attend an informational session
  • Meet the applicant requirements
  • Complete and submit your application
  • Receive notification of your acceptance
  • Attend, in person, all classes

Applicant requirements

Interested applicants must meet all of these requirements:

  • Applicants should be between the ages of 14 and under the age of 21
  • Graduated from 8th grade
  • Be authorized to work in the United States

 

 

Class dates and times

  • Classes are held the 1st Saturday and 3rd Wednesday of every month
  • Classes meet at the Minneapolis Emergency Operations Training Facility
