About Ward 2

Ward 2 is home to about 35,000 residents in a variety of diverse neighborhoods. It is home to the University of Minnesota, Augsburg College, and the University of Minnesota Medical Center, Fairview. The Mississippi River runs through Ward 2.

Ward 2 covers the Southeast area of Minneapolis. It is home to about 35,000 residents, as well as the University of Minnesota and Augsburg University.

Ward 2 has largest student population in the state of Minnesota, alongside diverse neighborhoods of both homeowners and renters.  

Ward 2 is home to world-class academic institutions, as well as the UMN Fairview hospital system. These institutions are an invaluable asset to the Ward, the city, and the region. New generations of leaders benefit from the unique resources in Ward 2. The surrounding neighborhoods include many alumni, faculty, staff, and other members of the University community.

Public transit connects Ward 2 to the rest of the city and region. The Blue Line and Green Line and dozens of bus routes bringing thousands of residents through Ward 2 each day.

Ward 2 spans both banks of the Mississippi River. The Ward has beautiful parks and green space, including the Mississippi River Gorge and numerous Minneapolis Parks.

Other unique and important landmarks in Ward 2 include the Glendale Townhomes, the Witch’s Hat water tower, historic Dinkytown, Bohemian Flats, and the Midtown Greenway.
