Labor force

Participation in the labor force is similar in Folwell and Minneapolis. However, the neighborhood's rate decreased from a high of 71 percent in 1990 to 69 percent in 2000. In 1990, participation in the labor force was slightly higher in the neighborhood than in the city.

From 1980 to 1990, the unemployment rate in Folwell decreased to its lowest point, while the city's unemployment rate increased. In 1990 the rate was lower in the neighborhood than in Minneapolis. Then while the unemployment rate citywide declined from 1990 to 2000, the neighborhood's rate jumped from a low of 5.7 percent to 11 percent.
