Poverty

The percentage of people living below the poverty level was significantly lower in East Calhoun than citywide between 1979 and 1999. The neighborhood peaked in 1989 at 6 percent compared to 19 percent in Minneapolis. East Calhoun's percentage of people 65 years and older living in poverty consistently declined between 1979 and 1999 and was significantly lower than the citywide percentage for that demographic.

East Calhoun reported zero families below the poverty level between 1979 and 1999. Citywide, the percentage of all families below the poverty level and the percentage of families with children under 18 below the poverty level peaked in 1989.
