Certain projects require a public hearing. CPED works with and provides analysis and staff recommendations to the City Planning Commission, the Zoning Board of Adjustment, and the Heritage Preservation Commission. Each board or commission meets approximately every two weeks.
City Planning Commission
This commission hears and decides on land use reviews, site plan reviews, conditional use permits, changes or expansions of a nonconforming use, variances, and land subdivisions.

Zoning Board of Adjustment
This board hears and decides matters of zoning appeals, zoning variances, and the establishment of legal nonconforming rights.

Heritage Preservation Commission
This commission serves as a citizen advisory body to the City Council on the preservation of historically and architecturally significant buildings, districts, and sites, and allowing modifications on these properties for contemporary use.

Business, Inspections, Housing & Zoning (BIHZ) Committee
This committee makes recommendations to the City Council regarding amendments to the Zoning Code, applications for rezonings, and applications for vacation of streets and alleys following City Planning Commission decisions. The committee also hears appeals from decisions of the City Planning Commission, the Zoning Board of Adjustment, and the Heritage Preservation Commission.
