The City of Minneapolis 2012 Urban Scholars
On August 17th we said goodbye to the first cohort of City of Minneapolis Urban Scholars. Congratulations to all of them for jobs very well done. At the graduation ceremony, Urban Scholar Ahmed Abdulle said it all and said it beautifully. Visit our WordPress blog to read his Urban Scholar graduation speech. Mayor R.T. Rybak, Council Member Don Samuels and Council Member Meg Tuthill were all there to wish them well and encourage those who are graduating in the next year to come back and work in the City. The Urban Scholars who are not scheduled to graduate this next year are invited to come back and apply to be Urban Scholars again next summer.
Urban Scholars is a leadership development program that prepares college students from diverse races and ethnicities for careers in the public sector. The goal is to create a pipeline of experienced young professionals who are ready, willing and able to come to work for the City when they graduate. In 2012, more than 100 applied, but only 8 were chosen.
