Minneapolis 311 is introducing more ways to connect with City services and make it easier to get help through a new online portal and mobile app. These changes make it easier to submit service requests, find information and, if you create an account, track your requests and receive notifications. While residents can still contact 311 by phone, email and other existing methods, the new system includes an improved online reporting experience along with tools that allow customers to find information about City services.
311 is the City’s front door for questions, information and service requests related to non-emergency City services. Residents can use 311 to report issues, ask questions and find information about City programs and services.
“A city that works for everyone starts with making sure residents can connect with the services they need,” said Mayor Jacob Frey. “This updated 311 system gives people more ways to engage with their City and makes it easier to find information and report issues in their neighborhoods. As Minneapolis continues to grow and change, we’re focused on making City services more accessible and responsive to the people who rely on them.”
What’s new?
The updated 311 system gives customers more ways to connect with the City and more information about what happens after they submit a service request. This includes:
- A new online portal and mobile app that includes more options for reporting an issue
- The ability for residents to track the progress of their requests through the new online portal without having to call in for an update
- The option to create an account so residents can receive direct notifications when there is an update to a request
- An Explore Map which shows open service requests in the area, making it possible to see whether an issue has already been reported
- A new public knowledge base where residents can find information about City services and connect directly to online service request forms
“Reaching two decades of 311 service is an important milestone and is a testament to the dedication of the people who have worked to connect Minneapolis residents with the City,” said 311 Service Center Director Mwende Nzimbi. “Our team has worked hard to modernize how people report issues, find information and connect with City services. This new system builds on 20 years of service while giving residents more convenient ways to get help, follow the progress of their requests and stay connected to their City.”
What’s next?
The 20-year milestone is an opportunity to remind residents of the non-emergency line to receive the appropriate help while keeping 911 available for situations involving an immediate threat to life or safety. In its first year of operation (2006), more than 58,000 service requests were submitted to 311. In 2025, there were more than 118,000 service requests submitted, and an additional 380,000 contacts which included phone calls and emails – speaking to the steadily increasing demand and usage among residents.
The modernization phase of Minneapolis 311 has culminated into the launch of a new mobile app that is now available in the App Store and Google Play. In the meantime, the City will continue sharing information about the new system and how residents can use its features.
The 311 team will host a series of community events for the public to ask questions and learn more about how to use the new system. They will all be held at 3736 Chicago Avenue from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on:
- Wednesday, Nov. 18
- Wednesday, Dec. 2
- Wednesday, Dec. 9
