'Dinner dialogue' to gather community visions within George Floyd Square

March 7, 2024

The City and engagement team are holding a “dinner dialogue” on March 28 to gather community visions within George Floyd Square. This event begins this year’s effort to create a community-centered vision for the area, including the Peoples Way site, street improvements, memorials and more.

Dinner dialogue on the future of George Floyd Square
6-8 p.m. Thursday, March 28
Sabathani Community Center, 310 E. 38th St.

Food and refreshments will be served, please RSVP

The City’s new engagement team includes the architectural design firm 4RM+ULA and the Cultural Wellness Center. Both groups specialize in developing culturally based solutions to community challenges.

A series of workshops are planned throughout the year to better define:

  • The important racially and culturally centered values that should be the foundation for the future of George Floyd Square.
  • The criteria for the future use of the Peoples Way site and a community-centered owner.
  • The places to preserve for a future memorial process and clarify how the City can support this future process.
  • A concept layout for the streets and sidewalks that aligns with the future use of the Peoples Way site and accommodates memorials within the public right-of-way.

The dinner dialogue will include a recap of the City’s engagement work on George Floyd Square.
