Cooperative projects
Project overview
The City works with the following groups on some projects:
- Hennepin County
- Minnesota Department of Transportation (MnDOT)
- Metro Transit
Together they reconstruct or rehabilitate streets, bridges and pathways that fall within city limits.
Many of the highways in the Hennepin County State Aid Highways (CSAH) system were constructed in the 1950s. These highways are at or past the end of their life.
County streets have high volumes of pedestrian, bicycle and public transit traffic, and streets in the system are showing signs of severe deterioration.
To improve mobility and safety for all users and travel types, these streets need to be repaired.
Streets generally get new:
- Sidewalks
- Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) compliant pedestrian ramps
- Pavement and pavement markings
- Signage
- Bikeways where needed
Improvements are made to:
- Traffic signals
- Curbs and gutters
- Utilities
The City also works with Metro Transit to improve mass transit in Minneapolis.
