The history and future of George Floyd Square

George Perry Floyd was murdered at 38th St. E. and Chicago Ave. on May 25, 2020. In the days and years that followed, the intersection became a gathering place for:

• Protest
• Calls for racial justice
• Remembrance and community care.

It is now known as George Floyd Square.

Since 2020, the City has worked with community members, local organizations, artists, businesses and caretakers to plan long-term improvements to the area.

The project includes:

• Street reconstruction
• Public space improvements
• Ongoing efforts to preserve access to community-created memorials
• Honoring the history of the site
