Minneapolis Police Department's reporting process for the identities of involved officers in critical incidents:

Incident Commander: Provision to Internal Affairs

The Incident Commander shall provide the identities of all Involved Officers to the Internal Affairs Commander or the Internal Affairs Commander’s designee. The provision of these identities is for the purpose of the public identification of such officers by the City as permitted by law.

Internal Affairs: Provision of Identities of Involved Officers to the City’s Responsible Authority or Designee under Minnesota Statutes Chapter 13

No later than 24 hours after the Critical Incident occurs, the IAU Commander or the IAU Commander’s designee shall notify the City’s Responsible Authority or the Responsible Authority’s designee under Minnesota Statutes Chapter 13 of the identities of the Involved Officers.

  1. The provision of these identities is for the purpose of the public identification of such officers by the City as permitted by law.
  2. No later than 24 hours after the Critical Incident occurs, the IAU Commander or the IAU Commander’s designee shall notify the City’s Responsible Authority or the Responsible Authority’s designee under Minnesota Statutes Chapter 13 of any potential legal basis to delay or withhold the public identification of the Involved Officers.
