Your sidewalk repair options

Property owners must pay for public sidewalk repairs. There are two options for getting sidewalk repairs done.

Have the City fix your sidewalk

This is your first option.

  • You can have the City-hired contractor repair the sidewalk.
  • This is the most common choice.
  • We'll bill you after we complete the work.

If you take no action

A City-hired contractor will repair the sidewalk and bill you afterwards.

What to know if you hire the City contractor

Hire a private contractor to fix your sidewalk

This is your second option.

  • You can hire a private sidewalk contractor to repair the sidewalk.
  • Only an insured contractor can repair public sidewalk damages.

Sidewalk work must meet our standards

The contractor must complete the work to the City standard. These standards apply to all work done in the public right-of-way.

What to know

This is your other option if you choose to not have the City fix your sidewalk.

Before the contractor can start repair work, they must have:

  • Insurance to fix sidewalks
  • An approved Sidewalk Inspection Permit

There may be other requirements as well.
