About Cultural Districts
We identify areas throughout the city that are rich in cultural identity as Cultural Districts.
These culturally-rich areas have a high number of:
- Black, Indigenous People of Color (BIPOC)
- People of Color immigrants
These communities have historically experienced the negative effects of racially discriminatory actions and policies.
Labeling areas as Cultural Districts is one thing we're doing to strengthen:
- Commercial corridors
- Neighborhoods
- Economic activity
- Public transit
- Affordable housing
- Community ownership
- Supporting other cultural assets and civic benefits
