NRP Policy Board elections

Election process

Candidates

We will make voter guides with candidate information. 

You can vote for any candidate in your voter guide. You can also write in another candidate.

Electors

Neighborhood organization boards should choose an elector to vote on their behalf.

Some neighborhood organizations represent multiple neighborhoods. Those organizations can vote in each district they represent.

Eligibility

Your elector must:

  • Be over 18
  • Live in the district they are voting for

You may also choose a backup elector.

How to choose your elector

At least 48 hours before the election, you must email NCR your elector's:

  • Name
  • Phone number
  • Email address

Election day

The election will be at the Community Connections Conference every two years. The last election was Feb. 17, 2024. During the conference, electors can:

  • Learn about the NRP Policy Board
  • Connect with neighborhood organizations
  • Cast ballots for both district and at-large seats

Vote early

If your elector cannot attend the conference, you can vote by email.

How to run as a candidate

Applications are usually due 30 days before the election. You can also run as a write-in candidate.

We encourage you to meet with neighborhood organizations before the election.

You must not:

  • Seek endorsements or testimonials
  • Raise money for your campaign
  • Conduct phone banks
  • Produce campaign literature of any kind to get elected to the NRP Policy Board

Eligibility

You must be at least 18.

There are two types of seats that you can run for:

  1. A district seat
  2. An at-large seat

District seat

  • There are 6 NRP Policy Board districts in the city
  • You must live in the district to run for the seat

At-large seat

  • At-large seats represent all of Minneapolis
  • You must live in Minneapolis to be eligible
