Public works crews, in coordination with private crews, continue to make progress on repairs at the intersection of 50th St. and Penn Ave. Crews installed a support beam last night to add stability to the mixed-use building at 2221 W. 50th St. and are in the process of installing an additional support beam today. These beams and shoring towers are needed to support the building for the basement wall to be repaired.
Traffic on Penn Ave. S has reopened while 50th St. from Penn to Oliver remains closed as work continues. We anticipate the building shoring work to be completed today allowing crews to resume retaining wall construction over the weekend. Work will continue into next week with the goal of reopening the northern half of 50th St. to two-way traffic by the end of the week.
