City seeks community feedback in selecting partner for the Peoples’ Way

January 30, 2025

The City of Minneapolis received four applications in the Request for Qualifications (RFQ) process to find a community owner to redevelop the People’s Way site at George Floyd Square.

The four non-profit organizations who applied are:

  • Minnesota Agape Movement
  • P3 Foundation (known as David’s Place)
  • Rise & Remember
  • Urban League Twin Cities

Community engagement

The RFQ was informed by years of engagement with the community. The shared vision for the area provided the foundation of the document. A copy of the RFQ can be found on the city’s website.

The city remains committed to seeking community input as the selection process moves forward.

The public is invited to meet the applicants, hear their presentations and share feedback at an upcoming community event:

Next steps

City staff will use the community engagement to inform the choice in awarding development rights, which will require approval by the City Council and Mayor. Review criteria will consider the applicant’s ability to own, develop and operate the property with a community-centered mission and focus. A selection is expected to be made in May.

Once the development rights are awarded, the city will work with the selected organization to formulate a development and operating plan for the property, which will also include ongoing community engagement opportunities. The terms of the sale of the property to the organization will require City Council and Mayoral approval in the future.
