Fall is in full swing for downtown Minneapolis, as the City of Lakes hosts festivities, music and outdoor options for the whole family. A few brief street closures may be in effect to accommodate the goings-on in the City.
“We’ve got sports, we’ve got music, we’ve got theater—September is shaping up to be another amazing month in Minneapolis,” said Mayor Jacob Frey. “After a successful summer filled with parades, festivals, and world-class events, there’s no way we’re letting that momentum stop. We’re committed to making Minneapolis an entertainment destination, and this line-up is proof that our efforts are paying off.”
Weekend of September 13-15
- The Minnesota Lynx and Minnesota Twins both play home games on Friday, September 13 at Target Center and Target Field. The Twins play at home through the weekend.
- The Orpheum hosts the opening weekend of “Back to the Future” (opening night is September 10).
- Orchestra Hall will host its Season Sampler of the Minnesota Orchestra on Saturday, September 14.
- TCF Bank Stadium will be full of football fans as the Minnesota Golden Gophers play Nevada on Saturday, September 14.
- Taco-bout a fun event with the 2024 Taco Tour on September 14. The Latino Economic Development Center hosts 20 taco-related restaurants and food trucks along Lake Street between Clinton Avenue and Cedar Avenue.
Street Closures
- Select streets will be closed for the Red Bull Showrun on Saturday, September 14, featuring racing cars and motorcycles in the Commons. Fourth Street between Chicago Ave. S. and 3rd Ave. S will be closed for the event, with a few additional surrounding streets closed leading up to the event for organizers to set up.
- The Minnesota Vikings host the San Francisco 49ers in the home opener at U.S. Bank Stadium on Sunday, September 15. It’s a noon game time start. Streets immediately surrounding the stadium will be closed for a time before and after the game to allow for pedestrian traffic.
Weekend of September 20-22
- The Iowa Hawkeyes will come to town to take on the Minnesota Golden Gophers at TCF Bank Stadium on Saturday, September 21.
- The Surly Brewing Company hosts its annual SurlyFest on Saturday, September 21.
- The West Broadway Business Coalition hosts the second installment of this season’s “Open Streets” on Saturday, September 21, from 11 am to 5 pm. This is on West Broadway, from Lyndale Ave. to Penn Ave. N.
- The Minnesota Vikings welcomes the Houston Texans to town on Sunday, September 22, at U.S. Bank Stadium.
Weekend of September 27-29
- Flip out over Simone Biles and other gymnasts at “Gold Over America Tour” (or GOAT) at the Target Center on Friday, September 27.
- The Minnesota Twins have a three-game home stand with the Baltimore Orioles Friday, September 27, through Sunday, September 29
- The final “Open Streets” will take place on Saturday, September 28, from 11 am to 5 pm. Hosted by the Lyndale Neighborhood Association, the event will take place on Nicollet Ave. from W. 31st St. to W. 46th St.
- Come hungry for the North Loop Food Truck Fair on Sunday, September 29, starting at 11:30. The event in the 700 block of N. 3rd St. boasts not only countless food trucks, but also a beer garden, live music and local artist pop-ups.
