Johnson St. NE green infrastructure restoration
Project overview
A few years ago, the City rebuilt Johnson St NE from 18th Ave NE to Lowry Ave NE. The project fixed old roads and pipes, made it safer for people walking or rolling, and added a new trail for pedestrians and bikes. It also included green infrastructure. That is infrastructure that mimics or uses natural systems to improve resilience to climate impacts. This often results in environmental, economic, and social co-benefits.
Now, the City is coming back to Johnson St NE to restore the green spaces along the street. In the fall and early winter of 2024, we will ask people who live and work along the street what kinds of plants they would like to see. Then, in the spring of 2025, a contractor will plant those choices. By the end of 2025, we will hand the boulevards back over the residents.
