Franklin Ave W green infrastructure restoration
Project overview
A few years ago, the City rebuilt Franklin Ave W between Hennepin Ave S and Lyndale Ave S. The project:
- Fixed old roads and pipes
- Made it safer for people walking or rolling
- Added a new trail for pedestrians and bikes
It also included green infrastructure with rain gardens. That is infrastructure that mimics or uses natural systems to improve resilience to climate impacts. This often results in environmental, economic, and social co-benefits.
This year, a contractor will restore the rain gardens. The contractor will:
- Remove the green erosion control blanket
- Preserve healthy plants as possible
- Install a layer of mulch, and install native plants and grasses
After this work, Public Works will continue to provide long-term care for the rain gardens. This will include cleaning inlets, weeding, and providing restoration as needed.
