13th Ave NE, Water St to 2nd St NE
Project overview
The proposed project will improve a stretch of about 0.4 miles of 13th Avenue NE in the Sheridan neighborhood, between Water Street NE and 2nd Street NE. This street is mostly used by businesses. Right now, it has sidewalks on both sides, two lanes for traffic (one going each way), and two lanes for parking. The project will reconstruct the entire street including:
- new sidewalks
- ramps that follow ADA rules for people with disabilities
- accommodations for bicycles
- new pavement, curbs and gutters, and utility improvements
Project purpose
This project aims to improve the right-of-way for everyone who uses the street to get around. The street was built a long time ago, in 1968. The road is in bad shape and needs to be fixed. In 2022, the City checked the road and found that it's not in good condition. This project will make the road better for everyone. This project presents an opportunity to add ADA-compliant curb ramps, boulevards with trees, address sidewalk obstructions, and install a bicycle facility. Every day, about 400 people walk on this street, 250 people ride bikes, and between 1,900 and 2,700 people drive on it.
