Summer interships

Once accepted into our program, we will match you to an internship based on your:

What to know

Pay, hours and dates

  • Internships are paid.
    • Pay is at least $18.13 per hour for undergraduate students and $22.44 per hour for graduate students.
    • Paychecks arrive every two weeks.
  • The work is full time (40 hours a week).
  • Program dates are June 2, 2025, through August 15, 2025.

Requirements and time off

  • You are required to attend the Urban Scholars Leadership Institute weekly.
  • You are required to work all weeks of the program.
  • Work hours are typically 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday.
  • Some placements may require evening and weekend hours.
  • You will not work on City holidays.
  • We make accommodations if you are sick or have a family emergency.

Leadership training

As an Urban Scholar, you will participate in The Urban Scholars Leadership Institute (USLI).

  • You will be assigned to a cohort or small group.
  • Your cohort will attend leadership training together.
  • During your summer internship, you will attend the training once a week (every Monday) for eight hours per week.

Being part of an Urban Scholar cohort helps you develop a network of lifelong professional and personal relationships.

You will learn soft skills such as:

  • Reflect on your experiences in the workplace 
  • Process what you are learning
  • Identify your personal strengths, values and habits

You will also have the opportunity to practice public speaking in a supportive space.
