Communities Free from Commercial Tobacco

We work to reduce the negative impact of commercial tobacco.

Why we do this work

In the U.S., commercial tobacco is the leading cause of preventable diseases, disabilities and deaths.

Products like cigarettes, e-cigarettes, chewing tobacco and cigars put people at risk for illnesses such as:

  • Asthma
  • Cancer
  • Heart problems

Greater risk for marginalized communities

Tobacco companies market their products to youth, people with lower incomes and communities of color. This puts these groups at a greater risk of the negative effects of commercial tobacco.

Provide resources

  • We offer resources and information to people who want to cut down or quit using commercial tobacco products.

Tobacco sales rules and policies

We support changes to the City’s tobacco policies that:

  • Increase penalties for businesses that do not follow the City’s tobacco license policies
  • End sampling of commercial tobacco products for new tobacco products shops
