For people charged with driving after your license has been suspended or revoked due to unpaid tickets

  • Requirements
    • Take a class.
    • Set up a plan to pay off outstanding driving ticket.s
  • Benefits
    • Your license is provisionally reinstated.

Shoplifting

For people charged with shoplifting, failure to pay cab fare or "dine and dash”

  • Requirements
    • Complete three hours of classroom instruction and training.
    • Complete at least one of the following actions.
      • Write a letter to the victim of your offense.
      • Complete community service.
      • Pay restitution to the victim.
  • Benefits
    • The violation may not appear on your record, or
    • You may avoid a conviction.

Interact

For people charged with misdemeanor obstruction of the legal process offenses

This charge means you hindered the work of the Minneapolis Police, Metro Transit Police or the Hennepin County Sheriff's Office. 

  • Requirements
    • Meet with a department representative. 
    • All people involved share their perspective so they can better understand one another.
    • You provide a written or oral statement explaining what happened.
    • A representative of Restorative Justice Community Action (RJCA) facilitates the meeting. 
  • Benefits
    • The violation may not appear on your record, or
    • You may avoid a conviction, and
    • Both sides gain insight into their behavior and how it impacts the neighborhood.

Community Restorative Justice

For people charged with misdemeanor livabililty or nuisance offenses 

  • Requirements
    • Meet with a small group of community members.
    • Discuss how:
      • Your crime impacts the community
      • You can make amends for the harm that resulted from your behavior
    • Create a restitution agreement, which may include actions like:
      • Neighborhood service
      • A letter of apology to the neighborhood
    • A representative of Restorative Justice Community Action (RJCA) facilitates the meeting.  
  • Benefits
    • The violation may not appear on your record, or
    • You may avoid a conviction, and
    • Both sides gain insight into their behavior and how it impacts the neighborhood.
