Requirements for housing project applications

You must meet these requirements if you want to apply for a brownfield grant for a housing project.

Requirements for all housing project applicants

Comply with Unified Housing Policy

Read about the Unified Housing Policy

All housing projects seeking brownfield grant funding must comply with the City's Unified Housing Policy.

For example, at least 20 percent of the units in a residential rental project be affordable to (and occupied by) households earning 60 percent or less of the Area Median Income (AMI) for a period of not less than 30 years.

The City Council can waive the affordability requirements for part of a large housing development if:

  • The project as a whole meets the affordability standards on a blended basis.
  • The applicant submits a letter of request and supporting documents by the pre-application deadline.

Requirements for housing applicants also seeking other funding

If you are also seeking funding for your housing project from one of these two funds:

  • Affordable Housing Trust Fund
  • Housing Revenue Bonds

Then, you must secure a portion of the funding from those programs before you can submit a pre-application for a brownfield grant to be used for cleanup.
