Brownfield grants

A brownfield is any type of property that is known or suspected to be contaminated by a:

• Hazardous substance
• Pollutant
• Contaminant

The City helps developers and property owners prepare and submit grant proposals to obtain public funds for:

• Brownfield investigation 
• Brownfield cleanup

Eligible projects

The following types of projects may be eligible for brownfield grants.

• Commercial and industrial
• Affordable housing and in limited cases, market rate housing
• Mixed use
• Parks and open space

The City's role

The City helps projects obtain funding from other public agencies.

In most cases:

• The City must be the grant applicant.
• The City Council must approve a resolution in support of the application.
• The property owner or developer seeking the funding must prepare their application.
• The City submits the application and administers the grant.

Pre-application and application deadlines

There are two deadlines.
