Immigrant and refugee affairs

We support inclusivity, respect, and safety for all, no matter their immigration status. Mayor Frey and City staff work to connect residents with services.

A welcoming city

Mayor Frey and City staff want everyone to feel a sense of belonging and reach their full potential. This is and will remain their goal and commitment.

Immigrant and Refugee Affairs

In 2018, Minneapolis created the Office of Immigrant and Refugee Affairs — the first in the state — and appointed Director Michelle Rivero. Immigrant and Refugee Affairs provides guidance on immigration and refugee issues to elected leaders, policy makers and City staff.

Director Rivero also works with the City’s Intergovernmental Relations department to coordinate and promote the City’s legislative priorities on immigration-related matters.
