What we do

The Policy & Research division supports City legislative and policy-making functions. We provide research and analysis services for City Council that are:

  • Independent and nonpartisan.
  • Authoritative and data-driven.
  • Transparent and publicly available.

Our division:

  • Researches issues and trends that affect the City.
  • Reviews and analyzes proposed programs and options.
  • Meets with City Council to share information about a specific policy area. 
  • Creates reports, policy briefings, staff memos, and other materials for City Council review.
  • Answers technical questions from the City Council's members, committees, and temporary groups.

The city auditor appoints the director of Policy & Research.
