Snow Emergency app guide
You can learn how to install the Snow Emergency (SE) app and fix any issues you may have.
Android users
- Open “Play Store” on your Android phone.
- Make sure you have “apps” selected at the bottom of the “Play Store” app.
- To search the app, type “Minneapolis snow emergency.”
- The Snow Emergency App will come up (Mpls Snow Emergency Rules). Click on it.
- You’ll see the red SE icon. Click on the link.
- Click the green “install” button to download.
- When download is complete, click the green button “open”
- The app will ask for the following permissions:
- Allow “parking rules” to access this device’s location?
- There are 2 choices: "allow only while using the app" and "deny."
- Select “allow only while using the app."
- This feature centers the app to your location only while you’re using it.
- Allow “parking rules” to access this device’s location?
- Note: Android, by default, allows push notifications (the user doesn’t have to allow them).
iPhone users
- Open “App Store” on your iPhone.
- Click “Search” and type “Minneapolis snow emergency.”
- The Snow Emergency app will come up, click on it (you’ll see the red SE icon).
- Click the download button.
- When download is complete, click “Open” The app will ask for the following permissions:
- “Parking Rules” would like to send you notifications.
- There will be two options for this: "don’t allow" and "allow." We encourage you to select “allow.”
- This will allow you to receive notifications when the City declares a Snow Emergency.
- Allow “Parking Rules” to use your location?
- There are 3 choices: "allow once," "allow while using app" and "don’t allow."
- We encourage you to select “allow while using app”.
- This feature centers the app to your location only while you’re using it.
- “Parking Rules” would like to send you notifications.
Fixing app issues
Follow these steps to help resolve issues with the snow emergency app.
Check your app version
- Check the version of the app you've installed by doing the following:
- Open the app: Snow emergency app
- At bottom right section of the screen, click “Settings”
- If the App build is not “7.1.0” that means you have an older version installed . You need to install the most recent version.
- If app doesn’t ask you to update automatically, go to your respective store (App Store or Google Play Store)
- Uninstall the Snow emergency app from your phone.
- Next, re-install the newest version of the app on iPhone or Android.

- To uninstall the app, hold on the icon until the options appear and select “uninstall”.
