City seeks comments on local employment and training program plan

The City of Minneapolis Employment and Training Program  (METP) is seeking comments from the public on the plan it submitted to the Minnesota Department of Employment and Economic Development  (DEED) for approval.

METP provides employment programs in Minneapolis that specialize in job training and placement services that lead to economic self-sufficiency. Primary funding comes from federal and state governments and changes yearly.

Each year, the State requires workforce investment boards (WIBs) to complete a plan describing how their local workforce investment system will respond to the needs of regional labor markets for the next program year—beginning July 1.

The plan includes information about vision, local governance, operations, statewide performance standards, program-specific planning requirements, cost category detail, and funding and staff.

After the comment period, a review team, composed of staff from DEED and local partners, will approve local plans that are consistent with the federal and state rules and regulations governing Minnesotas workforce investment system, with the policy directions outlined in Minnesotas WIA Unified Plan, and with the WorkForce Center Business Plan developed by the Governor's WorkForce Development Council.

Written comments about METPs plan may be submitted by e-mail to savi.samaroo@minneapolismn.gov by June 30, 2006.
