Minneapolis Department of Civil Rights hosting “Know Your Rights” forum
To help local communities and organizations understand their rights under the Minneapolis Civil Rights Ordinance, the Minneapolis Department of Civil Rights will participate in a “Know Your Rights” forum called “Fight For Equity: A Discussion on Civil Rights” on Thursday, May 8 at 6 p.m. The forum will take place at University of Minnesota, Herbert M. Hanson Jr. Hall, Room H1-107, 1925 4th Street SE.
The African American Caucus is hosting the event that will include a 45 minute panel discussion featuring Minneapolis Department of Civil Rights Director Velma Korbel followed by a 45 minute “Know Your Rights”presentation. The Minnesota chapters of Phi Beta Sigma fraternity are sponsoring the forum.
The “Know Your Rights” presentation is a part of the Minneapolis Department of Civil Rights’ new trainings designed to provide the community with information and resources that will empower people to voice their concerns, and also encourage them to become more involved in finding equitable solutions for the people of Minneapolis.
During the training sessions Civil Rights staff will facilitate discussion and also leave time to hear what community members have to say about the challenges they face regarding civil rights.
If organizations are interested in hosting a "Know Your Rights” training session they should contact the Civil Rights department at firstname.lastname@example.org for more information.
