Take precautions to keep you and your pet safe during days of extreme cold

Dangerously cold temperatures are expected to last in Minneapolis through Tuesday and a Wind Chill Advisory is in effect Monday night into Tuesday. When it gets this cold, frostbite can happen in just minutes. Folks are encouraged to take special precautions to keep themselves and their pets safe in the coming days.

During cold weather, you should take the following precautions:

If you see an animal outside without shelter or in an unattended car, call Minneapolis Animal Care & Control immediately -- in Minneapolis, dial 311 (612-673-3000). If you believe the situation to be life-threatening and the animal is non-responsive, please call 911.
