Between 1980 and 2000, Standish neighborhood population grew at a rate relative to the city. During this period of time, Standish experienced a 3.3 percent increase in population growth, similar to the city's increase in population of 3.1 percent.

Population growth brought more children, adolescents and adult residents to Standish. Between 1980 and 2000, children and adolescents increased by 11.5 percent and adults aged 18 to 64 by approximately 15 percent. By contrast, Standish saw a decrease in the senior population of almost 39 percent.

The ethnic distribution of Standish changed significantly between 1980 and 2000. Although still the majority, the neighborhood's white population decreased by 20 percent. In contrast, the black population experienced a ten-fold increase. Similarly, Hispanics have increased by five times, Asians by four times, and American Indians by more than half of their 1980 population figures.
