The population of North Loop grew by 348 percent between 1980 and 2000, adding 1,178 new residents. Between 1990 and 2000, the population more than doubled.

Population growth brought more children, adolescents and working-age residents to the North Loop. The number of neighborhood residents who are aged 65 and over is very small and decreased slightly from 1980 to 2000. During this time, the population of children and adolescents grew 13-fold, and the number of adult residents quadrupled.

As the North Loop population increased, it also diversified. In 1980 and 1990, the population was 86 percent and 90 percent white respectively. In 2000, the population was 58 percent white and 25 percent black; Hispanics made up 6 percent and American Indians made up 4 percent of the total population.
