The percentage of people aged 65 years and over under the poverty level was lower in Lowry Hill East than the city in 1979 and 1989; however, in 1999 the neighborhood percentage rose significantly and was above the citywide figure.

The percentage of all families in Lowry Hill East living in poverty was above Minneapolis' percentage in 1979; the neighborhood dropped below the city level in 1989 and remained below it in 1999. Lowry Hill East's percentage of families with children below the poverty level was above Minneapolis' in 1979 and 1989, but then dropped below the citywide level in 1999.
