Labor force

The proportion of the working-age population in the labor force tended to be somewhat lower in Howe than in Minneapolis in 1980 and 1990. But in 2000 the neighborhood reached 77 percent, surpassing the citywide rate of 72 percent.

In 1980, unemployment was lower in Howe than in Minneapolis, but in 1990 it climbed to a high of 12.7 percent, nearly twice the citywide percentage. In 2000 it decreased again below city levels, but not down to its 1980 level.
