In 2000, Hale had 3,196 residents, a 1-percent decrease from 1990. The population had also declined approximately 1 percent from 1980 to 1990.

Hale's adult population increased almost 13 percent and the youth population grew about 6 percent over the 20-year period. The elderly population decreased. In 2000 there were 57 percent fewer senior residents than in 1980.

The white population constituted more than 90 percent of the total neighborhood population in all three decades, although numbers of other groups have been gradually increasing. The neighborhood gained a substantial number of Asians by 2000. The Hispanic population in 2000 was less than it was in 1980, despite Hispanic population growth in Minneapolis.
