Labor force

Between 1980 and 2000 Elliot Park's labor participation rate increased at a faster rate than the city's. However, the percentage of neighborhood residents in the work force was still below the Minneapolis percentage. In 2000, 58 percent of Elliot Park's population over the age of 16 was employed or actively looking for employment in 2000, compared to the citywide percentage of 72 percent.

Elliot Park has historically had a higher unemployment rate than Minneapolis – a difference that grew dramatically from 1990 to 2000. During that time, the city's unemployment rate dipped to 5.8 percent, while the neighborhood's rate jumped nearly seven points to 15.4 percent.
