Central's labor force participation was higher than Minneapolis' in 1980, but it decreased in 1990 and 2000. In 2000 the neighborhood's percentage was lower than Minneapolis'.

Central's unemployment rate was higher than Minneapolis' between 1980 and 2000. The neighborhood and city unemployment trends mirrored each other during this period, both peaking in 1990, although the neighborhood unemployment rate that year was 7.4 percent higher than citywide.
