Labor force

Labor force participation between 1980 and 2000 for Bottineau declined slightly, but remained between 68 percent and 69 percent. This trend runs counter to the citywide figure that rose 6 percent during the same time period.

The unemployment rate for Bottineau was higher than the city's in 1980 but decreased by 2000 to a level below the 2000 citywide figure. Bottineau experienced significant declines between 1980 and 1990. That ran counter to Minneapolis, which had an increase of nearly 2 percent in unemployment during the same time.
