Minneapolis to Celebrate the 25th Anniversary of the Americans with Disabilities Act 

To honor the 25th anniversary of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), Minneapolis is hosting a celebration on Thursday, July 23 from noon – 3p.m. in the Minneapolis City Hall Rotunda.

The event will feature speakers, recognition, performers and interactive programming.

The 25th anniversary celebration is being organized by the City of Minneapolis Neighborhood and Community Relations department, the Minneapolis Advisory Committee on People with Disabilities, The City of Minneapolis Department of Civil Rights, Minneapolis Parks and Recreation Board and the Metropolitan Council.

The Americans with Disabilities Act was signed into law on July 26, 1990 by President George H.W. Bush. The act was the first comprehensive civil rights law for people with disabilities. The ADA bans discrimination on the basis of disability in the areas of employment, public accommodation, public services, transportation and telecommunications.
