Mayor Hodges to Attend State of the Union as Rep. Ellison's Guest
MINNEAPOLIS - Rep. Keith Ellison will be joined by Minneapolis Mayor Betsy Hodges at this year’s State of the Union address on Tuesday, January 28th. The mayor will attend as Rep. Ellison’s guest and sit in the gallery of the House of Representatives during the speech.
“Mayor Hodges’ vision for Minneapolis is bold, ambitious and achievable under her great leadership. I’m proud to have her as my guest at the State of the Union this year,” Rep. Ellison said. “Building on the great progress made under Mayor R.T. Rybak, Mayor Hodges is ready to make Minneapolis a model American city by increasing opportunity and promoting inclusion of all communities. Betsy’s tireless focus on working families in Minneapolis will make our city an even better place to live and work. I look forward to working closely with her to close the achievement gap in our public schools and make Minneapolis the first zero-waste city in America."
“I am honored to be joining Rep. Ellison for this year’s State of the Union,” Mayor Hodges said. “Rep. Ellison has been a champion of working families and the people of Minneapolis for years. His leadership has helped Minneapolis get to the strong position we are in today, and I look forward to his continued partnership as we work to grow the city, continue to run it well and eliminate the gaps between white people and people of color that divide us from each other. As we strive to create One Minneapolis where white people and people of color all thrive in one city and one region, I know that Rep. Ellison is as dedicated as I am to making our great city a beacon for the entire country.”
