A primary purpose of the City’s performance management strategy is to increase two-way communication between supervisors and their employees regarding the work itself. Setting employee work expectations is best done collaboratively between supervisor and employee. This allows for differing perceptions of responsibilities, priorities, etc. to be addressed and clarified. Of course, it is the role of the supervisor to ultimately approve work expectations.
Employees should work with their supervisor to determine the expectations and major outcomes of their job. The following two links provide information on how to create work expectations and then how to use the Halogen Software, which powers the City of Minneapolis’ performance management process.
