St. Barnabas Apartments
906 Seventh Street South
Renovation of the vacant St. Barnabas hospital building in the Elliot Park Neighborhood of Downtown Minneapolis to provide housing for youth and working adults. Thirty-nine of the 52 units will be designated to serve youth age 16 to 21 whose families are unable or unwilling to provide for them. YouthLink, a youth-serving social service agency, will provide on-site independent living skills programs. The adjacent parking lot will be converted into greenspace for outdoor recreation and youth programming. All apartments are efficiency units with kitchen and bathroom facilities. Thirteen of the units will be available to members of the general population whose incomes are at or below 50 percent of the area median income. The project is a collaboration between the City of Minneapolis, Central Community Housing Trust (CCHT), Allina, the Episcopal Diocese of Minnesota and YouthLink. CCHT will maintain and manage the property.
